Sharon A. McDonell

For years I was a person of all trades, meaning it took a few decades to fine the right fit for what people were willing to pay me. In the 1980s and 90s, jobs for out lesbians, even ones with an MBA, were scarce. Eventually, I found a career in student advising and career counseling. However, my favorite career - though not well paying - is writing. I'm thankful that a disability encouraged me to learn a new skill that I enjoy so much.

Writing novels began after spending years writing my memoir. My unpublished memoir is about my years as a lesbian activist, and eventually a new mom in Sacramento, California. When I tried an AI story idea, I’ve loved it and enjoyed it so much I left memoir in a computer file and in a binder in my backroom. Afrer trying my hand at one novel, I did a second. The first one, Dot 1.0 is still waiting patiently for me to use my improved skills and redo it.

My last sojoun into nonfiction essay writing, “The Schooling of a Lesbian Mom” appeared in the anthology More LGBT+ Families, published by Qommunity Media LLC in 2019.
